Art is the only thing that I’ve truly been dedicated to doing and I have been for a while. It is more than something visually pleasing, but something that is an insight to the artists themselves. Art can be a serious thing, but it shouldn’t always be. It should be enjoyed and appreciated, both by the audience and the creator themselves. Otherwise, there would be little depth to the piece because it wouldn’t have the connection to the artist. I believe that is the strongest trait in art: The connection or lack of connection to the artist, on both a physical and emotional level.
If I had to label myself as an artist, I wouldn’t be able to. I am not rooted to one kind of art. I want to create every kind of art that is available, whether it is glassblowing, woodcarving, graphic design or anything in between. I’m also never truly satisfied no matter how much I create or with what I create. I take pride in all of my work, but they are never “perfect.” Something can always be done to improve the art as well as the artist. I have realized this after participating in critiques. I draw inspiration from everywhere. Often times I’m not too sure where it exactly comes from, but I do know that artists can be a large factor. I grew up watching tons of cartoons and playing videogames, and not much has changed except for how I use them. I take inspiration from John Kricfalusi, Tilt, Adam Fuchs as well as numerous, more traditional artists such as Salvador Dali and Auguste Rodin. Because I draw inspiration from practically everything, it fuels my work as an artist, to make it my own and to stop it from becoming stale. |
